Makeup tips from the Pros
Sunday, January 24, 2010 - 2:47 PM
Are you ready for that special occasion, portrait or party?

Here are some tips from our professionals to help you shine!

Our team of professionals have the talent and know how to help you look your best for any occasion. However, just in case you find yourself in a bind, we thought you might like to know some of the tricks of the trade so you can pull it off like a pro!

First things first for a perfect pallet...
Bring on that natural glow with top quality nourishing skin care. Be sure to cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin twice each day! Remember to use a sun protecting moisturizer even on those cold wintery days! Exfoliate twice a week with a gentle scrub and deep clean pores twice weekly with a nourishing masque. Anti-aging products can offer a wide range of benefits for aging skin and can perfect your natural beauty! Our esthetician and beauty professionals are available to consult with you regarding your optimal skin care home treatment plan.

Complexion perfection... So now that you're glowing, it's time to smooth out your look. We suggest mineral powder makeup as it suits every skin type and offers a natural glow for any age. Start with a concealer brush and concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation color. Dab the concealer on just the discolored area you wish to hide. If you aim to conceal bagginess under your eyes then your best defense is to dab the concealer in just the shadow under the bags!

When you are finished hiding your imperfections it is time to contour. Your contour color should be one shade darker than your foundation. Using a contour brush, lightly dab color on the areas that you would like to minimize on your face. Use caution however to apply this technique sparingly for best results. You want the finished look to appear natural and not too dark.

Now you are ready to apply foundation. Your best foundation color will be one that appears to disappear when it is placed on your jaw line and compared with your neck. When you have the perfect color match, apply it in small circular motions with a foundation brush. Start with a small amount of mineral foundation powder on the brush and continue over the face 3-5 times adding thin layers of foundation powder until the desired coverage is achieved. The most flattering look is natural and dewy rather than dry and cakey. It is best to play the minimalist when it comes to mineral makeup. You can always add more if needed. Our specialty is custom blending! We can create a perfect match foundation specifically suited to your skin tones.

Glamor Girl Basics... Now that you have a smooth, flawless complexion; Let's talk glamor. To achieve that sun kissed look and soften the features, start out with a bit of bronzer on the "apples" of the cheeks. Slide the bronzer brush or kabuki brush along the cheekbone ending just before the ears. Sweep color back onto the cheekbone ending finally at the "apples" where you began. Follow the same but opposite path with your blush powder and a blush brush beginning just in front of the ears. Apply color lightly and layer until you achieve a soft natural glow of color. To finish the look and create the dewy fresh glow, lightly sweep a radiance or shimmer powder over the cheek bones. This is perfect for all ages as it softens and reflects light!

The Eyes Say It All! So make them speak volumes! Our professionals can show you how to maximize the effect that your eyes can have on your beauty using strategically placed shadows and liners. We offer individualized makeup applications and even show you how its done! However we will give you a few hints to get you started.
For starters choose three neutral earth tone colors such as cream, taupe and brown. Leave the frosty shimmer shadows to the young gals and go for matte shadows if you are trying to defy your age! Use the cream or lightest color to highlight your eyelid in the upper outside edge along your brow line. Next use the taupe or mid-tone color to shade the middle of your lid. You can extend this color all the way up to meet the highlight color if you wish. Then use the darkest color and line the crease as well as the lower lid. You can also use this color as a dry powder eyeliner.  Just be sure to tap the excess off of the brush before using to prevent dark shadow flaking onto your face.
Lastly, apply mascara in a horizontal rocking motion to create thicker looking lashes.

Pucker up... You will want to make a lasting impression! Start by lining your lips following your natural lip boundaries. Next apply lip color with a lip brush so that it stays on longer. Finish up with a gloss but leave the frosty ones to the younger generation as the frosty shimmer accentuates the wrinkles!
